Details:
The East Tennessee State University, composer Neal Endicott, and pianist Jeremy Siskind* are pleased to launch a consortium for the composition of a concerto for piano and jazz orchestra (big band), with a projected completion in July of 2023. The composition will be accessible to most college/university jazz ensembles.
The composition bridges between traditional and modern big band styles, the concerti of the Classical and Romantic Eras, and more modernist conceptions of harmony, melody, and form.
The solo part will demand a good deal of virtuosity as well as great command as an improviser. The ensemble parts will have a difficulty in line with a Grade 5 Big Band chart, with opportunities for solos, optional lead trumpet lines, and a clarinet solo doubled into the 1st Tenor Saxophone part. Parts for auxiliary percussion and vibes are included. Substitute parts will also be included to allow for performance by ensembles without doublers in the saxophone section (either with the addition of a clarinetist (Cl+SATTB), or using the traditional SATTB lineup).
Consortium Members are invited to join the consortium at one of three tiers:
Tier 1 ($300) -- Ensembles receive a dedication in the front matter of the score; semi-exclusive performance rights for 12 months beginning in January 2024; composer's virtual attendance at 3 rehearsals; composer's attendance at performance (at the ensemble’s expense); hard copy of the score, signed by the composer; .pdf parts for the concerto; .pdf scores/parts to "Fernet and Ginger" (big band compositions, Grade 6). Sync and recording license included.
Tier 2 ($150) -- Ensembles receive a dedication in the front matter of the score; semi-exclusive performance rights for 12 months beginning in September 2024; composer's virtual attendance at one rehearsal; hard copy of the score, signed by the composer; .pdf parts for the concerto.
Tier 3 ($75) -- Ensembles receive a dedication in the front matter of the score; performance rights beginning in September 2024; .pdf copy of the score/parts.
All commissioners will pay $75 to sign on to the consortium, with any remainder payable on completion of the composition. Interested ensembles should register HERE and pay their fee/deposit via PayPal to nealendicottmusic@gmail.com **
Consortium buy-in at Tiers1 and 2 will remain open through completion of the composition. Tier 3 will remain open through the premiere in December 2023.
Non-Ensemble support is also welcomed. Donors can make a contribution HERE
Donations between $10 and $99 will receive thanks via social media and on www.nealendicottmusic.com. Donations over $100 will receive thanks via social media and on www.nealendicottmusic.com and will be acknowledged in the front matter of the score.
